"She had not known the weight until she felt the freedom." -The Scarlet Letter Our trip to Cancun was filled with fun--and HUGE monster mosquitos. I have spent the past several days itching nonstop and today I just couldn't do it any more. As soon as we made it through security at the airport, we stopped in the duty free shop to buy vanilla. I also went to see what the pharmacy section had and decided to try Benadryl. And you know what? It was amazing. I stopped itching for the first time in days. What blessed relief!

"A family portrait is only complete with love to fill it's frame." -Wes Fesler I had a glorious time today with my boys. We jumped off cliffs, snorkeled with sting rays, and zipped on ziplines. At one point, climbing out of the water for what must have been the hundredth time of the day, I spotted a young mom with a baby and a toddler. And it hit me like a ton of bricks--my family is done. I no longer wonder "what if. we had a baby" or "should we try for a girl." We have a fabulous family and it fills my heart completely. And now I'm sure--our family is truly complete. (It only took 10 years after Luke had his vasectomy--oops!). I love that I get to travel with this squad through life and I can't wait to see what adventures we go on next!
"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate." -Oprah A few years ago, we bought a time share in Cancun to be enjoyed every other summer. When we went on that trip, we left the boys at home. Today, we got to share the beautiful resort with them for the first time--and what a moment it was. When we walked into our suite, we were exhausted and hot from travel. But as soon as the boys started exploring, you could see them light up. After a few minutes of checking out the massive rooms, the hammocks on the balcony overlooking the Caribbean, and testing each bed, Blake summed it up in one quote. "Dad--Thanks for working so hard for us to have a nice life." That moment of gratitude and recognition were amazing.
"This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man."--Shakespeare So, I have a confession to make. I HATE yard work. If you ask me why I like being from Brush I will tell you I liked growing up in a farming community. If you ask my why I like living in the Ranch, I will tell you that I love the beauty and peace of our neighborhood. But, I have a black thumb and don’t care to figure out how to fix it. This presents a problem. We recently received a summons from the city and a warning from our HOA that our yard needed to be better kept. We started to fight the battle with weeds and bushes and grass and my anxiety level began to grow. Finally, I stopped. Why was I fighting this? I don’t like yard work, and you know what, I don’t have to. So, instead, I found a yard company that will show up tomorrow to mow the lawn, trim the bushes, and pull the weeds. My anxiety stopped almost imediately. Lesson learned? Don’t fight being Jess. It’s ok.
“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.” -Albert Einstein This week Jaxon has been going to CU Boulder each day to attend a robotics camp. On monday as we came over the hill into boulder, he gasped and said “I love this place! I always see such cool things in the rocks!” So, each day, instead of dreading the drive, I looked forward to hearing what he saw in the famous flatirons. He saw a Turtle, Optimus Prime, The Titans from Hercules, a warrior, and a sleeping indian. I say the Thing from Fantastic Four, a beaver, santa napping, and a finger flipping someone off. (ok, mine are silly) It was a small moment to treasure.
