"Beer--its the best damn drink in the world." -Jack Nicholson Our anniversary date was to check out some breweries in Longmont after going to a graduation party. What a fun way to spend an evening!
First stop was Wibby. There is a huge outdoor area with games and live music. We started with a flight of various beers--my favorite was the Radler which is very lemonade like. On the second round, I switched to a Strawberry Radler which was AWESOME! Sweet and smooth--it was a great way to start off the summer. Next stop was Left Hand. We were starving, so I stopped at the food truck while Luke went to get beer. We enjoyed a pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich with a Peach Beerlini for me--yum! We talked about going to a third brewery but decided that two was perfection. Then it was home for cuddling and a movie. What a great anniversary!

"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." -Winnie the Pooh Saying goodbye at the end of the school year is always a difficult task. Over the course of years, I build amazing relationships with my students and it is never easy to send them off. This year, though, has been harder than most. The students in my class have been in my life since they were 6--I started teaching at STEM when they were in the first grade and it has been a privilege to watch them grow. In addition, this spring we are saying by to both Ms. David and Mrs. Johnson--two of my teammates who I adored working with. So tonight, we had a last hurrah at the celebration of learning. We loved, we laughed, and remembered that it is special to be part of a community. And for that, I am so lucky!
"The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities." -Stephen Covey May is brutal for teachers. Every day is filled with a million to-dos and even more shoulds. Final grades are due, students are crazy, rooms must be packed and evenings and weekends are filled with events and graduations.
This year, I have had to step back and really work on my schedule to ensure I am a mom and a teacher. Blake had to be early outed from school due to his anxiety and I have rushed home each day to be with him and get to appointments. Jaxon has his birthday and end of year events and I committed to being at all of them. And you know what? I did it! I have managed to be a mom and a teacher this may better than I have in the previous years. Self care has slowed down (I can't remember what it feels like to make art) and time with friends has been minimal. But you my kids have been loved and I have been present. It can be done. And I can't wait for June when I can "just" be mom for a while. “Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”-Roger Caras The past month Layla has limped and whined. Instead of getting better with time and love, she seems to be getting worse. After a family friend found out that his dog had leg cancer, we were fearful that this might be our poor puppy's fate as well. Tonight, we finally went to the vet. It was time to see what is going on. After a 2 1/2 hour appointment, the answer is--she has arthritis but is otherwise fine. We have new pain meds to try and I am hopeful that she is going to be fine for a long time to come.
Someday when the pages of my life end, I know that you will be one of its most beautiful chapters.-Unknown Spring has been hard on Blake, but today the sun started to come back out. He has been put on new medications that are helping his anxiety and a break from school has him smiling once more. The icing on the cake came today when Blake and his cousin Emma were voted by their teachers to be two of the top ten freshman. They both also earned their STEM letter. This boy is kind, thoughtful, hard working, and going to make it!
"Let me root, root, root for the Rockies." -Unknown We celebrated Erin's 36th birthday with a grownup night at the rockies. Dinner followed by the game and drinks--it was fun to let loose and cheer on the hometown team!
If you have only one smile in you give it to the people you love. -Maya Angelou This week was exhausting--between a terrible cold, finding help for Blake, and normal spring school stress, there was not a lot left tonight when I got home. With no more cough medicine around, Luke said he would run to the store. Asked if I needed anything else, I replied "something to make me smile." And boy did he come through! He returned with flowers (pink tulips!) and this awesome figure. It is Captain Marvel and her flurken--what more can a geek ask for? oh yeah--cold medicine.
"Hockey players have fire in their hearts and ice in their veins."-Author Unknown Just about 20 years ago, I watched my first avalanche game with this boy I was just starting to like. Tonight, we celebrated that anniversary (and our wedding anniversary 2 years later) with a trip to watch the Avs take on the San Jose Sharks in round 2 of the Stanley cup finals. The game was a blast--lots of cheering, an aggressive game, and a victory! I love doing life with Luke!
After a lifetime of losing and gaining weight, I get it. No matter how you slice it, weight loss comes down to the simple formula of calories in, calories out. Valerie Bertinelli I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. Even at my thinest and strongest, I always worried that I was curvy and big. Over the past few years, my weight has returned to the highest level it has been and I am feeling it. My feet hurt, I have little to no energy, and I had enough. So in March, I decided to join Noom (an online weightless program) and I am proud to say that today I hit my prepregnancy weight! I still have 15 pounds to lose to hit my goal of 15% of my weight gone, but I am proud of where I have come so far. I feel better and have a LOT more energy to do things. I am walking about double the number of steps I was doing before and have to go get some new jeans soon. I am going to do this--not fast but on my terms!
