"Give thanks to the LORD for he is good; his love endures forever." -1 Chronicles 16:34 During October, I loved the feeling of living in gratitude that came from keeping a gratitude journal. So, for this year, I set the goal on my list to record 1000 gratitudes. Above you can see the first month of layouts (#1-#97). I loved the small journal I am using--it is freeing just to play in it and find out how different art supplies work. It also gave me a clear goal to make art even when I don't have time to make big layouts! What a blessing!

"...we can become happier people by exploring our deeper inner workings through the creative process." --Tamera Laporte, Willowing Arts One of the most successful items I completed on my list last year was to complete some online art classes. So, for 2019, I spent time looking for a new class or classes that would get me excited to create on a regular basis. I finally settled on Life Book 2019 by Willowing Arts. Each week 1 (or more) lessons post that focus on a variety of mixed media techniques. The class was a little bit pricey, so I set the goal to finish AT LEAST two pieces of art each month. Above you will find the projects I finished in January! I learned many new techniques--my favorite was using watercolor pastels which I had previously been too afraid to use because of their high cost! I may not be a Picasso, but I enjoyed my creations this month! I am super excited to see what lessons the next month brings!
“Dance is the hidden language of the soul.”-Martha Graham Tonight our date was to attend the first annual STEM family formal! We weren't sure what to expect, but it was a great time. We all dressed in our "fancy" clothes and had a delicious dinner at Smashburger. Next up was dancing in the gym--it was fun to see Jaxon share his joyful moves with the world and to dance with all our friends. I can't wait to make this event a yearly tradition at our house-and in our school!
“THERE’S A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW AWAITING YOU IF YOU JUST LOOK UP.” – JACK Mary Poppins was one of my FAVORITE childhood films. I have wonderful memories of watching it with my sister and mom and singing along to all of the legendary songs. As a grown up, my favorite souvenir from our MANY trips to Disney parks is my "Practically Perfect In Every Way" Pillow that graces my couch. Thus, I could not WAIT for the new movie to come out.
Today Luke treated me to the new movie and I was in love from the first song as Jack (Played by Lin Manuel Miranda) started turning off the street lights in London. The Banks children are all grown up and facing challenging times thanks to the great slump. The movie follows their journey through this time as Mary Poppins reappears to take care of them (and the next generation) again. Emily Blunt was perfectly cheeky and Lin Manuel Miranda played a perfect partner. The best moment of the movie was when 93 year old Dick Van Dyke reprises his role of the old man banker and tap danced on the desk! I thought that the producers did an AMAZING job on this film. It was modern yet paid great homage to the original. I cannot wait for it to come out on video so I can sing with these new songs too! "Any day on the mountain is a good day." -Unknown I love the mountains of Colorado, but get so busy with life that we rarely go. This week I got to enjoy the beauty while chaperoning a school group to science school. And it was amazing! I loved tromping I’m the snow, playing in the powder and seeing the beauty in the stars at night. I need to spend more time on natureit fills my soul!
"God gave us the gift of life--it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well." -Voltaire A perfect birthday--dinner out for beer and burgers with my boys. They started my day off with cards and new movies and then let me pick where I wanted to go to dinner. We talked, we laughed, and I realized that 40 is amazing. I have grown into a life I love and I cannot wait to see what the next decade brings.
"At 20 years of age, the will reigns; at 30, the wit; at 40, the judgement." -Ben Franklin 40. This is a birthday that has been a long time in the making. When I moved from TMS to STEM Lab, I found myself once agin on the younger side of the staff. Thus, the "Someday I will be forty" jokes started. Well, it is finally upon us! I am turning 40 on Tuesday and today we celebrated. We threw a HUGE party (60+ friends and family) came out to celebrate me. We enjoyed apps, great beer, lots of visiting, and plenty of laughter. I felt truly beloved and cherished as I saw so many different parts of my tribe coming together in one place at one time. My friends spoiled me with gifts, love, and laughter. I am a blessed lady--I can't wait to see what this new decade brings!
"Dinner is better when we eat together." -Unknown
I forgot to take a picture today, but we all went as a family to Perry's for lunch. Nothing fancy, but we shared time and a meal to stop the world and take a breath! We tried a new pizza this week--Jaxon was not a fan! We shared our roses and thorns this week. We laughed and smiled. The perfect way to kick off a week! "Dude, I've been Stricken by Chicken." -Guy Fieri Tonight I went on an adventure that knocked another item off my life list and started a second. We went to have date night dinner at "The Post" in Lafayette, Colorado which was featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Drive (Link). Famous for their fried Chicken and craft brews "The Post" has gotten a lot of attention in our community and has been on my list for a while. Tonight we decided to try it out! Our first course was Fried Cheese Curds. Served with pepper jelly, the gooey deliciousness had pickled caulifower and peppers mixed in for a suprise in your mouth. Main course featured the fried chicken which was perfectly crispy as well as Pablano Mac and Cheese which may have been my favorite Mac and Cheese EVER! We finished up dinner with apple cobbler and beer--the perfect combination to start of a new year! Luke and I decided that date night was so fun that we decided we are going to try to go on 52 dates this year! Some will be "us" dates and others will be "family" dates. I can't wait to see where these adventures lead!
