“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.”-Thomas Merton Lifebook took a break in April, but I continued to work on mine. Only two pieces finished this month as other priorities took my time, but I am still on target to hit 2-4 pieces every month.

"The nicest thing about the rain is that it always stops. Eventually."-Eeyore The second half of April has been filled with life storms. Blake has been struggling with anxiety and depression--and it has worsened. Luke had to travel to Spain and his cell phone was stolen. The weather has been grey and cold when all I yearn for is the sun and the warmth of spring. Work has been filled with highs and lows. Yet, in spite of it all, there is so much to be grateful for. So today, my little moment is not filled with joy, but with gratitude that the storms of life help us to water growth. We are getting Blake help, work is growing and expanding, and our family is coming closer together. This too will pass.
"I love you three thousdand." -Morgan Stark to Tony Stark We said goodbye to an era today as we watched "Avengers: End Game". Over the past 13 years, this franchise has been a major part of our memories--anniversaries, birthdays, and movie nights have featured this crew. We loved that the characters were given endings that they deserved, but the sadness carried us into a funk.
“A picture is a poem without words”-Horace Tonight's date was with Jaxon to see his artwork presented at art night. We enjoyed wood fired pizza from a food truck and samples of international cuisine in the cafeteria. Jaxon shared his monochromatic sculpture (a green hockey net) and his group project! We listened to music, made cards, and enjoyed sharing time together. This boy's smile is the greatest artwork I have seen.
"Good luck needs no explanation." Shirley Temple Friday night I woke up to a horrible realization--my wedding ring was not on my finger. I have been losing weight over the past several months and my ring had grown too large. I had stopped wearing it much, but when my dad asked where it was I decided I should wear it. Saturday morning was spent retracing steps and trying to find my ring, but no luck.
This morning, my lucky changed. On an unexpected day off due to a potential threat to schools, Jaxon came bounding out of my room with my ring. He had found it wrapped up in the sheets. Whew--relief, joy, and contentment in a small treasure found. "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is though everything is a miracle." -Albert Einstein Today we had miracles big and small. My morning started off when NSF announced the first photograph of a blackhole. As a certified space geek who has taught this topic to my students for years, I was in awe that the computer models so accurately had predicted what a black hole would look like. As the day progressed and we learned that a young, female computer scientist had created the algorithm that made the picture possible. What a sweet miracle for women in STEM.
Our evening had two miracles. First, dear sweet Anne turned one. It was so fun to see her celebrate and enjoy chocolate cake! We were late to the party when Luke's car key broke and we thought we were going to have to replace the whole ignition. (~$1000 here we come!) But then, by some sort of miracle, he went back to the hockey rink and found the broken key in Jaxon's hockey bag. Miracles are everywhere-are we looking for God's gifts or missing them as we hustle? |
