"The risk of love is loss and the price of loss is grief. But the pain of grief is only a shadow when when compared with the pain of never risking love." -Hilary Stanton Zunin Today I said goodbye to my dear, sweet Layla. I woke up this morning to find her peacefully gone in her sleep. My heart is breaking--she was my cuddle buddy, my fiercest protector and my constant companion. I am so grateful that she went peacefully and that we got the opportunity to say goodbye in the comfort of our home. I am grateful that she taught me about unconditional love and introduced me to the beauty of morning walks in our neighborhood. I will miss her wagging tail, her constant begging for treats and a million other little things. Rest well my sweet Layla. I will see you again.

“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”-Roger Caras The past month Layla has limped and whined. Instead of getting better with time and love, she seems to be getting worse. After a family friend found out that his dog had leg cancer, we were fearful that this might be our poor puppy's fate as well. Tonight, we finally went to the vet. It was time to see what is going on. After a 2 1/2 hour appointment, the answer is--she has arthritis but is otherwise fine. We have new pain meds to try and I am hopeful that she is going to be fine for a long time to come.
