"I love you three thousdand." -Morgan Stark to Tony Stark We said goodbye to an era today as we watched "Avengers: End Game". Over the past 13 years, this franchise has been a major part of our memories--anniversaries, birthdays, and movie nights have featured this crew. We loved that the characters were given endings that they deserved, but the sadness carried us into a funk.

“I’m just a girl in the world.” -Gwynn Stefani A Saturday morning matinee to see a superhero movie-what more can a girl ask for? I had heard that the movie wasn’t great, but I enjoyed it. The character is awesome and the music was a visit back to the old memories of high school. Can’t wait to see how she moves Avengers End Game forward. Oh yeah, and Fury’s eye injury? Brilliantly funny!
“THERE’S A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW AWAITING YOU IF YOU JUST LOOK UP.” – JACK Mary Poppins was one of my FAVORITE childhood films. I have wonderful memories of watching it with my sister and mom and singing along to all of the legendary songs. As a grown up, my favorite souvenir from our MANY trips to Disney parks is my "Practically Perfect In Every Way" Pillow that graces my couch. Thus, I could not WAIT for the new movie to come out.
Today Luke treated me to the new movie and I was in love from the first song as Jack (Played by Lin Manuel Miranda) started turning off the street lights in London. The Banks children are all grown up and facing challenging times thanks to the great slump. The movie follows their journey through this time as Mary Poppins reappears to take care of them (and the next generation) again. Emily Blunt was perfectly cheeky and Lin Manuel Miranda played a perfect partner. The best moment of the movie was when 93 year old Dick Van Dyke reprises his role of the old man banker and tap danced on the desk! I thought that the producers did an AMAZING job on this film. It was modern yet paid great homage to the original. I cannot wait for it to come out on video so I can sing with these new songs too! "I created the OASIS because I never felt at home in the real world. I just didn't know how to connect with people there. I was afraid for all my life, right up until the day I knew my life was ending. And that was when I realized that...as terrifying and painful as reality can be, it's also...the only place that...you can get a decent meal. Because, reality...is real." -Halliday, Ready Player One There are SO many thing that I should have done this morning--finished cooking freezer meals, cleaned the house, paid bills, etc. But when Blake asked me if I wanted to watch a movie with him, I said yes. Because, it mattered. Spending time with these boys being present and sharing time is what it is all about. We rented "Ready Player One", made some popcorn, and ate some pizza. We laughed at all of the Easter eggs (and at Jaxon dancing!). My heart is full, my house is messy, and guess what--it was a real moment.
“As I get older I am more and more comfortable being alone.” -Sienna Miller When I made my initial list of adventures I wanted to have, going to a movie by myself sounded like a stretch. Movies have been one of my favorite past times for my entire life. As a middle school/high school student, most weekends found me at the theater with either family or friends to see the newest movie at the one screen Sands Theater. In high school, the Cover in Ft Morgan added a second screen and it was amazing--we had three choices each week!
As I moved on to college, movies became one of my favorite activities to share with my roommates and with Luke as we dated. I love a good adventure movie and even more I love comic book movies! I always joke with Luke that he is the luckiest bastard alive because each year our anniversary hits memorial day weekend and the opening of a new comic book movie. He never has to plan more than that and a trip to the melting pot! So, why go to a movie by myself? Well, I think the honest answer is that it means that I am finally confident enough in myself to not worry about what other people think. In my small town, going together was the event, not the movie. Going by myself would have meant I wasn’t “cool” or “loved” or “liked” in my teenage mind. Throughout the years there have been many movies I wanted to see but skipped because of a lack of a date. So, today, I pushed those thoughts aside and went to see Oceans 8 in Boulder while Jaxon was at Robotics Camp. How was it? It was LOVELY! I really enjoyed the movie--it has a strong cast of women who played marvelously fun characters. The heist centered on the Met Gala so there were gorgeous crowns, beautiful baubles, and no one stole my drink! (I even had half left when the movie was over!) No one noticed that I was a alone and I felt brave for finally taking the plunge. I can’t wait to go again--I can see whatever I want now :) |
