"Sometimes you win Sometimes you lose Sometimes it rains." -Bull Durham March came into our lives like a lion. Illness has run rampant--Jaxon has missed 3 days of school, Blake 2 and Mom 2. By the end of each day, it seems that all is left is to make it home to the couch to rest (and cough!). So, on March 13/14, life gave us a rain date--2 snow days caused by the bombogenesis! We got about 6 inches of snow and 48 hours to just rest. I left all of my work at school and there was nothing to do but get better. It was a time out at a great time--so grateful that we got to hit the pause button! Now to go on into the second half of the month with joy and health!

"One day a week should be set aside for field trips." -Frank McCourt One of my favorite parts of being a teacher at STEM is taking students on field experiences. This year I have taken my own class on 6! But as a mom, I haven't gotten to enjoy the role of chaperone on field trips since it takes writing sub plans! Alas, my chance has finally appeared this year as I have a student teacher and Jaxon goes to my school! Score!
Today we visited the Colorado State Capital and learned how laws are made in our state. Our representative, Faith Winters, has a son in Jaxon's class and she made this day super special. In addition to the traditional tour of the building (which is amazing), the kids got to pass a law on the state capitol pet. They also got to visit the senate floor! What a fun way to learn that our votes matter! "At 20 years of age, the will reigns; at 30, the wit; at 40, the judgement." -Ben Franklin 40. This is a birthday that has been a long time in the making. When I moved from TMS to STEM Lab, I found myself once agin on the younger side of the staff. Thus, the "Someday I will be forty" jokes started. Well, it is finally upon us! I am turning 40 on Tuesday and today we celebrated. We threw a HUGE party (60+ friends and family) came out to celebrate me. We enjoyed apps, great beer, lots of visiting, and plenty of laughter. I felt truly beloved and cherished as I saw so many different parts of my tribe coming together in one place at one time. My friends spoiled me with gifts, love, and laughter. I am a blessed lady--I can't wait to see what this new decade brings!
"Knitting not only relaxes me, it also brings a feeling of being at home." -Magdalena Neuner Today I went to a hand knitting class to make this BEAUTIFUL and sensational new blanket. The first try did not go too well--I missed one loop and had to take a bunch of it back out. But then, it became a sensory experience that made my heart calm and find the coziness of Hygge. The yarn is soft, the color soothing, and the weight when I crawled under this blanket made my heart happy. What a great way to spend a day and I look forward to MANY nights curled up in this blanket throughout the rest of the winter.
"If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life."-Unknown My life work is to teach children to love STEM. Building, making creating, asking questions, and believing that we can make a difference in the world. Well today, I had the aha that my life work has been manifested in these two amazing humans I call kids. Jaxon spend the day building with his Christmas gifts--screws, cardboard and duct tape. Blake and his dad problem solved and made Blakes new AWESOME gaming computer run. It wasn't forced, it wasn't faked, it was a genuine moment that filled my heart and soul.
"Have yourself a merry little Christmas, let your heart be light."-Lyrics We had a very merry Christmas this year. My parents came and spent several days with us leading up to Christmas Eve. We celebrated Christ's birth with "bed church" thanks to streaming. I got all my wishes--including these adorable boots! And best of all, I saw the joy in each of my family members eyes as they realized they were loved. What more could a girl ask for? I am blessed!
"Christmas is the season of joy, of holiday greetings exchanged, of gift-giving, and of families united."-Norman Vincent Peele A pretty gingerbread house--this has been one of my Christmas wishes for years. However, as a boy mom, instead I often am left with a pile of frosting a big as the house covered with a mishmash of candy coating. However, this year, something changed. The boys slowed down, the time was savored, and this cute little Christmas creation came to be. It didn't long, it wasn't a fuss, instead it was a moment to savor and smile and love.
Link to Video "Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence." -Colin Powell Learning to engage in digital making has been one of my items on my list (as well as a professional goal.) So, when the opportunity to build a project for my class came up to use Arduino, I jumped on board. Little did I know the frustration that would ensue. I have spent the past 3 weeks trudging through a huge slew of tutorials, trial and error, and feeling like a failure. But tonight, after 3 hours of office hours with my professor and hours of work with Luke, I built a functioning hot pad! I felt like a million dollars. I still have a lot to do to finish my project, but I have used my failures to finally feel like a success.
"Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful."-Norman Vincent Peale I love Christmas--the lights, the music, the foods, the time with family and friends. Thus, we spent our weekend getting our house decked out in its Christmas Best. My favorite part is seeing the boys decorate their tree filled with memories of their lives. It is amazing to think about how fast they have grown from tiny babies into bright, kind young men. It is the best gift in the world.
"Be present in all things and thankful for all things." -Maya Angelou Thanksgiving is for family and ours this year was perfect. We spent time hanging out, cooking great food, and celebrating all of our many blessings! I love that there is no hustle and bustle on this day, just savoring time together and tasty treats! My heart is filled and full of joy. What a truly blessed life.
